Host-only Adapters in VirtualBox on OS X do not work right out of the box – some simple configuration is needed. This post provides a quick walk-through to get it up and running.

Try rebooting and holding down Command+R and choosing “reinstall Mac OS X” but you might need to use internet restore (Command + Option + R on boot) or if you have a Sierra boot installer use that to choose reinstall Mac OS.
Note: Virtual Box does not work well using a DHCP reservation on your router. It appears that enabling “binding too” and “IP Traffic” do not allow Internet connectivity in your VM. However, disabling “binding too” and enabling “IP Traffic”, the DHCP reservation works fine.
This was observed on a router using AdvancedTomato 1.28.
